David Githaiga
David Githaiga is a peer advocate, educator, and researcher with Psychiatric Disability Organization Kenya (PDO), a user-led non-governmental organization advocating for people with mental health struggles and psychosocial disabilities. After experiencing intense emotional and mental suffering while caregiving for siblings battling depression and suicide, David found passion in helping others understand mental health and challenging stigma.
In 2020, David enrolled in mental health advocacy training, and has since gained experience through learning opportunities offered by PDO-Kenya. David volunteers on mental health awareness campaigns in prisons, universities, high schools, radio programs, and community forums by sharing his mental health journey.
Prior to his career in mental health advocacy and research, David worked as an auditor in the Kenyan public service commission. During his me-time, David enjoys swimming, gardening, nature therapy, and sparking his creativity through filmmaking.
