Joyce Mugure

Joyce Mugure is a lived experience Quality Rights e-course certified mental health advocate. After being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Joyce navigated the stigma attached to mental illness labels and learned the importance of support. Joyce is currently a member of Pepea Champions and the founder of the Young Mums Mental Health Support Group, which supports young mums in realizing their potential while taking care of their mental health as they grow to impact their children and the community at large. Recently Joyce was selected to participate in the Young African Women with Disabilities Leadership Program. She is passionate about creating awareness, challenging stigma, and defending the rights of people with psychosocial disabilities. Aside from Joyce’s advocacy, she is an entrepreneur, a mother, and a writer. Joyce is currently working as a research assistant with Stema Health, run by University College of London, and the Realizing Human Rights and Social justice in Mental Health project. She hopes to become an author in the near future and publish her own book.
