Ted Rawson
Edward Rawson is a researcher based in Toronto, Canada and a graduate of York University's Critical Disability Studies M.A. program. His work attempts to understand global trends in mental health and disability using political economy and critical theory. His Master's thesis, titled Recovery as Dispossession: An Analysis of the Economic Case for Mental Health Reform, critiques current economic arguments for mental health reform by drawing attention to and questioning the conflation of 'mental health' with particular forms of citizenship. Ted hopes that his scholarship will contribute to an understanding of disability and mental health that can celebrate difference, resist all forms of coercion in psychiatric care, and reject the conjunction of 'mental health reform' with neoliberal economic goals.
